Anchor fixation may stop bowel twists without major surgery
NCT ID NCT07155304
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This completed trial tested a new procedure called percutaneous sigmoid fixation to prevent recurrent sigmoid volvulus (a twisted bowel). The procedure uses an anchor device to fix the colon in place after untwisting it with a scope. The study included 66 high-risk patients aged 16-80. The main goal was to see if the procedure reduces how often the volvulus comes back.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
percutaneous sigmoid colon fixation (a procedure using an anchor device to fix the colon in place after untwisting)
What this could lead to
If successful, this procedure could provide a less invasive way to prevent recurrent sigmoid volvulus, reducing the need for emergency surgery in high-risk patients.
What could go wrong
This is a small, single-center trial with only 66 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The procedure carries risks like infection or anchor failure, and long-term outcomes are not yet known.
