Old drug, new hope: pentoxifylline may shield kidneys in diabetes

Summary
This study tests whether pentoxifylline, a medication used for leg blood vessel disease, can slow kidney damage and delay death in people with diabetic kidney disease. About 2,376 participants from 40 VA hospitals will take the drug or a placebo. The goal is to see if it prevents the need for dialysis or a kidney transplant.
