Magnetic therapy fails to boost standard back pain treatment

NCT ID NCT07263737

Summary

This study tested if adding pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy to standard physical therapy provided extra relief for nerve pain caused by a slipped disc in the lower back. 46 patients with long-term leg and back pain were randomly assigned to receive either real or fake PEMF along with their regular therapy. While both groups improved, adding the electromagnetic therapy did not provide any significant extra benefit for pain, disability, or quality of life compared to standard care alone.
