New hope for rare blood disorder: experimental drug targets patients failed by standard therapy

NCT ID NCT06552429

First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated Jun 02, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tests two doses of peginterferon alfa-2b in 27 adults with essential thrombocythemia (a rare blood disorder causing too many platelets) who either didn't respond to or couldn't tolerate the standard drug hydroxyurea. Participants receive injections for up to 96 weeks, and researchers will measure how the drug moves through the body, its safety, and whether it helps control platelet counts. The goal is to manage the disease, not cure it.
