Summary

This study tested two teaching methods—watching videos of other kids brushing and using a 3D jaw model—to help 120 children with autism (ages 6-12) improve their toothbrushing. The peer video group had less plaque and better brushing skills that lasted up to 6 months, while the 3D model group showed only small improvements. The findings suggest that peer modeling is a simple, effective way to build lasting oral hygiene habits in children with autism.
