Doctors probe link between breathing machine and brain swelling in surgery

NCT ID NCT07085949

Summary

This study aimed to understand how different settings on a breathing machine (ventilator) used during surgery affect a potential sign of brain pressure. Researchers observed 105 adults having elective spine surgery, measuring a specific eye nerve width with ultrasound before and after their procedure. The goal was to see if using higher pressure to keep the lungs open impacts this non-invasive indicator of pressure inside the skull.
