First seen Feb 01, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 21 times

Summary

This study tested a new 13-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV13) in 140 healthy children aged 2 months to 5 years. The goal was to check the vaccine's safety and how well it triggers the body's defenses against pneumococcal bacteria, which can cause pneumonia and other serious infections. The vaccine was compared to an existing approved vaccine in a double-blind setup, meaning neither the families nor the doctors knew who got which shot.
