First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 29 times

Summary

This study tested whether a new DNA-based test (PCR) works better than the usual lab culture for diagnosing complicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) in adults. Over 700 participants were randomly assigned to have their treatment guided by either the PCR test or the standard culture test. The goal was to see if PCR leads to better recovery and less unnecessary antibiotic use.
