Heart surgery bleeding breakthrough? new drug could replace plasma transfusions

NCT ID NCT04244981

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 12, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study compares a clotting drug (prothrombin complex concentrate, or PCC) to fresh frozen plasma (FFP) for reducing blood loss in adults undergoing heart surgery. About 820 participants will receive either PCC or FFP during surgery, and their bleeding and need for blood transfusions will be tracked for a week. The goal is to see if PCC works as well as FFP, potentially offering a faster and safer option to control bleeding.
