New imaging agent could light up rare tumors

NCT ID NCT05636540

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This early-phase study is testing an investigational radioactive tracer called 18F-FluorThanatrace (FTT) for PET/CT scans in up to 30 people with pheochromocytoma or paraganglioma—rare tumors of the adrenal glands or nerve tissue. The tracer aims to measure a protein called PARP-1 in the tumors. Importantly, the scan results will not be used to guide treatment; this is purely an observational study to see if the tracer can effectively highlight these tumors.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

18F-FluorThanatrace ([18F]FTT) - an investigational radioactive tracer for PET/CT imaging

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to a new imaging method to better see and understand these rare tumors, potentially helping future treatment decisions.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small study (30 people) that is purely observational—it won't change treatment. The tracer may not reliably highlight tumors, and results may not apply to all patients.
