Parents step in to help preemies suck and feed sooner in new NICU study

NCT ID NCT07060573

First seen Oct 31, 2025 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 23 times

Summary

This study tests whether parents can be trained to give their premature babies a simple mouth exercise program to improve sucking. Thirty-two babies in the NICU will receive daily stimulation for 14 days, either from a therapist or from their own parents. The goal is to see if parent-led care works just as well, which could help hospitals with limited staff. The study tracks feeding readiness, time to full oral feeding, and hospital stay length.
