Summary
This early study tested a hand-held imaging device to help surgeons spot parathyroid glands during thyroid surgery. These small glands are hard to see and can be accidentally removed, causing low calcium levels. The study involved 20 adults having thyroid surgery. The device was used to check if all four parathyroid glands were present, comparing results to what the surgeon could see with the naked eye.
