Chest muscle check could prevent breathing tube comebacks

NCT ID NCT07143695

First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 26 times

Summary

This study tests a new way to decide when to remove a breathing tube from critically ill patients. Doctors will measure how much a chest muscle thickens during breathing attempts. The goal is to see if this measurement, added to current checks, lowers the number of patients who need the tube put back in. About 200 adults on ventilators for at least 24 hours will take part.
