First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 28 times

Summary

This study tests whether measuring the thickness of a chest muscle (parasternal intercostal) can help doctors decide the best time to remove a breathing tube. 200 critically ill adults on ventilators will be randomly assigned to standard weaning or weaning guided by this muscle measurement. The goal is to see if this extra information reduces the number of patients who need to be put back on the ventilator.
