First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This early-phase trial tests a new device that is surgically placed on the pancreas to deliver the chemotherapy drug gemcitabine directly to the tumor. The goal is to see if this approach is safe and causes fewer side effects than standard IV chemo. The study involves 12 people with nonresectable pancreatic cancer who will receive treatment for 8 weeks and be followed for 24 weeks total.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

gemcitabine delivered via an implantable device

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a way to treat pancreatic cancer with fewer side effects by delivering chemo directly to the tumor.

What could go wrong

This is a very early, small trial with only 12 people. The device requires surgery to implant, and it may not work or could cause complications.
