First seen Feb 02, 2026 · Last updated May 17, 2026 · Updated 20 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding a drug called dexmedetomidine to a standard numbing medicine (bupivacaine) could improve pain control after laparoscopic bariatric surgery in 78 morbidly obese adults. The medicine was given as a nerve block using ultrasound guidance. The main goal was to see if it reduced the need for opioid painkillers in the first day after surgery.
