Summary

This study tests whether adding dexmedetomidine or fentanyl to a numbing medicine (bupivacaine) in a nerve block can provide better pain control for high-risk patients undergoing a leg amputation above the knee. The goal is to see which approach delays the need for extra pain medicine and reduces overall morphine use. The study involves 64 adults with serious heart or lung conditions who are scheduled for this surgery.
