First seen Jan 08, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 16 times
Summary
This study tested whether adding dexmedetomidine to a standard neck nerve block improves pain control after thyroid surgery. Fifty-eight adults aged 30-59 were randomly assigned to receive the nerve block with or without the added medicine. The goal was to see if the combination could delay the need for painkillers, reduce total opioid use, and lower pain scores in the first 24 hours after surgery.
