First seen Jan 28, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 24 times

Summary

This study tested whether adding midazolam or fentanyl to a standard epidural painkiller (bupivacaine plus dexamethasone) helps people recover more comfortably after lower back surgery. One hundred adults undergoing elective lumbar spine fixation took part. The main goal was to see how long it took before they needed extra pain medicine, and to measure pain levels, total opioid use, and hospital stay length.
