Brain vs. body: new trial tests drugs for mysterious pain disorder

Summary

This study is comparing two antidepressant medications, venlafaxine and dosulepin, to see which works better for people with somatic symptom disorder, a condition where distressing physical symptoms like pain cause major life disruption. Researchers will enroll 84 adults with this condition and measure changes in their pain, quality of life, and certain stress and inflammation markers in the blood over 8 weeks. The goal is to find more effective treatment options for this challenging disorder.
