New back block could cut pain pills after obesity surgery

NCT ID NCT06377605

Summary

This study tested a pain-relief method called an Erector Spinae Plane Block (ESPB) for people with severe obesity undergoing weight-loss surgery. Researchers compared the ESPB, an injection in the back, to standard local numbing medicine to see which better controlled pain after surgery. The main goal was to see if the ESPB could reduce the need for strong opioid painkillers, which can have serious side effects in this patient group.
