New therapy could ease complex PTSD symptoms
NCT ID NCT07371156
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study will compare two types of talk therapy for adults with complex post-traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD). One therapy, called PACE, is a patient-centred modular cognitive behavioural therapy. The other is prolonged exposure (PE), a standard treatment. The goal is to see which therapy better reduces CPTSD symptoms and has fewer side effects. About 228 adults will take part.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
talk therapy (PACE or prolonged exposure)
What this could lead to
If PACE works better than standard therapy, it could offer a more effective, patient-centred option for people with complex PTSD.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small trial (228 people) comparing two talk therapies, so results may not apply to everyone. Also, talk therapy can be emotionally challenging and may not work for all participants.
