Simple cord injection could save mothers from dangerous bleeding

NCT ID NCT07436286

Summary

This study tested if adding an injection of the medication oxytocin directly into the umbilical cord, right after a baby is born, helps reduce dangerous bleeding in mothers. It involved 416 women giving birth vaginally, who received either the oxytocin injection or a placebo (saltwater) along with standard care. The goal was to see if this simple, low-cost method helps the womb contract better, deliver the placenta faster, and lower blood loss.
