Study tests if GLP-1 drug can uncover hidden oxytocin shortage

NCT ID NCT04897802

First seen Jan 20, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 15 times

Summary

This study looked at whether people with hypopituitarism (a condition where the pituitary gland doesn't make enough hormones) have low oxytocin levels. Researchers gave a GLP-1 drug (exenatide) to 42 adults—some with hypopituitarism and some healthy—to see if it triggers oxytocin release. The goal was to understand if oxytocin deficiency exists in these patients, not to treat it.
