Oxygen study halted early: which level is safer for COPD Flare-Ups?

NCT ID NCT04223050

First seen Mar 24, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 10 times

Summary

This study aimed to find out if giving a lower amount of oxygen (to keep blood oxygen at 88-92%) is safer than the usual higher amount (above 94%) for people with COPD who are in the hospital for a sudden worsening of symptoms. The researchers planned to enroll many patients but stopped early with only 23 participants. The main goal was to see which oxygen level led to fewer deaths within 30 days.
