New surgery strategy aims to prevent cancer while delaying menopause

Summary
This study is testing whether a two-step surgery approach can safely prevent ovarian cancer in women with high-risk genetic mutations. Currently, doctors recommend removing both ovaries and fallopian tubes around age 40, which causes immediate menopause. This study will see if removing just the fallopian tubes first, and delaying ovary removal, can still prevent cancer while allowing women to avoid early menopause for longer.
