New hope for a painful radiation side effect: testing a Two-Pronged attack on jawbone death

NCT ID NCT06055257

Summary

This study is testing if a combination of two treatments works better than the current standard for a serious complication called osteoradionecrosis (ORN), which is jawbone death that can happen after radiation therapy for head and neck cancer. It will compare standard hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) alone against HBOT plus a year-long course of oral medications called a modified PENTOCLO regimen. The main goal of this small, initial study is to see if a larger future trial is feasible by checking if they can recruit patients, if people can stick to the complex treatment plans, and if they can track outcomes over 12 months.
