Tears may reveal how bodywork affects immunity
NCT ID NCT07633496
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This pilot study tests whether osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) — a hands-on therapy — can alter the concentration of certain proteins in human tears. Researchers will measure tear proteins linked to immunity and inflammation in healthy adults before and after OMT or a sham procedure. The goal is to see if this gentle bodywork might influence the body's immune or inflammatory state.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT)
What this could lead to
If OMT alters tear proteins, it could suggest a non-invasive way to influence immune or inflammatory responses in the body.
What could go wrong
This is a small pilot study in healthy volunteers, so results may not apply to people with medical conditions. The effect on tear proteins may be minimal or absent.
