Memory tests before hip surgery may spot delirium risk
NCT ID NCT06869876
First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated Jun 01, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study looked at 75 older adults (65+) having elective hip replacement to see if simple cognitive tests could predict who might develop postoperative delirium—a sudden confused state after surgery. Participants took two short memory and naming tests before surgery, and were checked for delirium afterward. The study did not give any treatment; it only observed and measured to better understand the link between pre-surgery brain function and post-surgery confusion.
