Special lenses may curb worsening eyesight in children
NCT ID NCT07294404
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether orthokeratology (OK) lenses, worn overnight, can slow the progression of nearsightedness (myopia) in children aged 8 to 15. The lenses reshape the cornea to change how light focuses on the retina. Researchers measured changes in eye length and retinal focus over one year in 53 participants. The goal was to see if OK lenses reduce the need for stronger glasses over time.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
orthokeratology lenses
What this could lead to
If successful, this could confirm that special contact lenses worn overnight can slow down worsening nearsightedness in children.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study with only 53 participants. Results may not apply to all children, and risks like eye infections from lens use exist.
