Radiation breakthrough: targeting cancer while sparing healthy tissue

Summary
This study is testing whether doctors can safely avoid radiating the healthy tissue flap used to reconstruct the mouth after oral cancer surgery. The goal is to reduce side effects like pain and difficulty swallowing while still keeping the cancer from coming back. About 348 patients who have had surgery and need follow-up radiation will be randomly assigned to receive either the new, more targeted approach or the standard radiation treatment.
