Can community outreach boost oral cancer checks in smokers and drinkers?
NCT ID NCT06231537
First seen May 09, 2026 · Last updated May 25, 2026 · Updated 4 times
Summary
This study looked at how to increase early detection of oral cancer in high-risk individuals (smokers and heavy drinkers aged 35+) in Rio de Janeiro. Researchers trained health workers to invite these individuals for a free mouth exam and compared two outreach methods: actively calling those who missed their appointment versus a public awareness campaign. The goal was to see which approach led to more people getting screened.
