Could your mouth germs trigger a stroke?

NCT ID NCT07296965

Summary

This study aims to understand if bacteria living in the mouth can travel to the arteries in the neck and make fatty plaques more likely to rupture, which can cause a stroke. Researchers will enroll 200 adults already scheduled for surgery to remove these plaques. They will collect samples from the mouth, gut, and the plaque itself to look for the same bacteria and see if they are linked to more dangerous, unstable plaques.
