New study aims to ease withdrawal in newborns exposed to opioids

NCT ID NCT05980260

First seen Feb 28, 2026 · Last updated May 13, 2026 · Updated 9 times

Summary

This study looked at 626 full-term babies with Neonatal Opioid Withdrawal Syndrome (NOWS), a condition causing tremors, crying, and feeding trouble. Researchers compared two ways of giving medicine: a scheduled taper (medicine at set times) versus a symptom-based approach (medicine only when signs appear). The goal was to find which method helps babies get ready to go home sooner.
