No-Pain, No-Opioids: new anesthesia approach tested in teen scoliosis surgery

NCT ID NCT07389096

First seen Feb 05, 2026 · Last updated May 04, 2026 · Updated 6 times

Summary

This study tests whether using a drug called dexmedetomidine instead of opioids during scoliosis surgery can control pain just as well, with fewer side effects. About 30 teens under 18 will be randomly assigned to receive either opioid-free or standard opioid anesthesia. The goal is to see if the opioid-free method keeps heart rate and blood pressure stable during surgery and reduces the need for extra pain medicine afterward.
