Could a cancer drug tame a dangerous heart rhythm?
NCT ID NCT05844501
First seen Feb 04, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 12 times
Summary
This study tests whether ondansetron, a drug usually used to prevent nausea in cancer patients, can help people with atrial fibrillation (Afib). Afib is a common irregular heartbeat that can lead to stroke or death. The researchers believe ondansetron may block a specific heart current linked to Afib. They will give 80 people either ondansetron or a placebo for 28 days before their scheduled Afib procedure to see if it reduces Afib episodes and controls heart rate.
