Breast cancer surgery skipped in trial for patients who respond fully to drugs
NCT ID NCT04578106
First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 13 times
Summary
This early study tested whether women with a certain type of low-risk HER2-positive breast cancer could safely skip surgery if their tumors disappeared completely after standard chemotherapy and anti-HER2 drugs. Only 5 women were enrolled before the study was stopped early. The goal was to see if avoiding surgery still kept cancer from coming back in the breast or nearby lymph nodes for at least 3 years.
