New heart device could help AFib patients ditch blood thinners

NCT ID NCT04829929

First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 13 times

Summary

This study is testing a device called the Omega™ Left Atrial Appendage Occluder in 200 people with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat) who are at high risk for both stroke and bleeding. The device is placed through a small tube in a blood vessel to close off a small pouch in the heart where clots often form. The goal is to see if the device safely seals the pouch, which may help prevent strokes without needing long-term blood thinners.
