NCT ID NCT03869957
First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 23 times
Summary
This study looked at whether adding omega-3 fatty acids to intravenous (IV) nutrition could reduce oxidative stress (a type of cell damage) in 20 adults with intestinal failure. Participants received either standard IV nutrition or IV nutrition with omega-3 fats for 7 days. The main goal was to measure changes in a blood marker of oxidative stress called malondialdehyde (MDA). The study was completed and provides early data, but it was small and did not test long-term outcomes.
