New shot tested for people with unbearable seasonal allergies

NCT ID NCT03369704

Summary

This study tested whether adding an injectable medication called omalizumab could help people with severe Japanese cedar pollen allergies who still suffer despite using standard allergy medicines like nasal sprays and antihistamines. The 12-week trial involved 337 adults and adolescents and compared omalizumab to a placebo (dummy shot), with both groups continuing their usual allergy treatments. Researchers measured changes in symptoms like sneezing, runny nose, itchy eyes, and how much the allergies interfered with daily life.
