Can a simple pill shield frail elderly from dangerous lung infections?

NCT ID NCT07178002

Summary

This study is testing whether a daily pill made from inactive bacteria (OM 85) can help prevent serious lower respiratory tract infections, like pneumonia, in vulnerable older adults living in nursing homes. It will involve 360 participants aged 75 and older who have had at least two such infections in the past year. Half will receive the active pill and half will receive a look-alike placebo pill for one year to see which group has fewer infections.
