Mouthguard study uses ultrasound to peek at jaw muscles

NCT ID NCT07090551

First seen May 05, 2026 · Last updated May 08, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at how a custom mouthguard (occlusal splint) changes the thickness and stiffness of jaw, neck, and shoulder muscles in people with bruxism (teeth grinding) and myofascial pain. About 40 adults will be split into two groups: one gets the mouthguard, the other does not. Researchers will use ultrasound to measure muscles before and after 12 weeks, and also track pain and jaw function with questionnaires.
