New body shape measure may predict anesthesia risks better than weight

NCT ID NCT07372846

Summary

This study aims to understand if a new measurement of body shape, called the Body Roundness Index (BRI), is better than the standard Body Mass Index (BMI) at predicting how difficult it might be to place a breathing tube in obese patients. Researchers will observe 90 obese patients undergoing surgery to see how their BRI and BMI relate to a score that measures airway visibility. The goal is to gather knowledge to help anesthesiologists better prepare for safe procedures.
