Race against time: can earlier IV food save ICU patients?
NCT ID NCT07085455
Summary
This study is testing whether starting supplemental IV nutrition earlier (on day 4 in the ICU) is better than starting later (on day 8) for patients who are critically ill and cannot get enough nutrition through a feeding tube. It will involve about 946 adults with organ failure to see if the earlier timing improves 28-day survival, muscle strength, and long-term quality of life. The goal is to find the best way to feed very sick patients to help them survive and recover better.
