Nurse-led protocol may shorten oxygen therapy in babies with bronchiolitis

NCT ID NCT06621641

First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Apr 30, 2026 · Updated 16 times

Summary

This study tested whether a nurse-led weaning protocol could safely reduce the time infants with bronchiolitis spend on high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy. Researchers enrolled 150 infants aged 1-24 months in the pediatric intensive care unit. The goal was to see if the protocol shortened oxygen use, hospital stay, and costs without increasing the need for breathing support.
