Special nurse boosts patient recovery after colon surgery

Summary
This study tested whether having a dedicated nurse coordinator helps patients follow a structured recovery plan after major colon or rectal surgery. The plan, called an Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program, includes steps before, during, and after surgery to reduce complications. Researchers compared 206 patients at hospitals with and without this special nurse to see if her support helped patients stick to the plan and improve their quality of life.
