First seen Mar 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 15, 2026 · Updated 5 times

Summary

This study tests whether an oral supplement called nicotinamide riboside (NR) can help preserve vision in people with a serious type of retinal detachment that affects the central vision (macula-off). Participants take NR or a placebo daily for 20 weeks, starting at diagnosis. The goal is to see if NR can keep retinal cells alive and improve vision recovery after surgery.
