New Battery-Powered ultrasound could spot hidden heart defects without surgery
NCT ID NCT07420400
First seen Feb 21, 2026 · Last updated May 20, 2026 · Updated 8 times
Summary
This study tests a new, portable ultrasound device to detect a right-to-left shunt in the heart, often caused by a condition called PFO. Researchers will compare the device's accuracy to the standard test (TEE with bubble study) in 75 adults already scheduled for that procedure. The goal is to see if this non-invasive approach can reliably find shunts without needing a tube down the throat.
