Study aims to ditch opioids for kidney stone pain

NCT ID NCT07368738

Summary

This study is testing if a combination of non-opioid pain medicines (acetaminophen and ketorolac given through an IV) works as well as or better than standard opioid medicine (fentanyl) for managing pain during a common kidney stone treatment called shockwave lithotripsy. Researchers will randomly assign 266 adults to receive one of the two pain management plans during their procedure. The main goal is to see if the non-opioid option provides equal or better pain control with fewer side effects.
