New scan could replace painful kidney biopsies for transplant patients

NCT ID NCT02201537

Summary

This study tested whether two special types of ultrasound scans could detect early signs of kidney transplant damage without needing invasive biopsies. Researchers followed 141 kidney transplant patients, performing the new scans at 15 days, 3 months, and 12 months after transplant. The goal was to see if these scans could spot scarring and blood flow problems early, potentially allowing doctors to adjust medications before serious damage occurs.
